Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- Lynda Matusek began her career in lighting production and design as the Technical Coordinator of the Singletary Center for the Arts in 1979. She remained in this role until 1993, during which she designed lighting for the School of Music Opera and some Department of Theater Arts productions. Beginning in 1980, Lynda Matusek designed lighting for numerous Lexington performing arts groups, including but not limited to: Modern Dance/Kentucky, Strong Wind/Wild Horses, the Lexington Ballet, Lexington Musical Theater, Syncopated Inc., Actor's Guild of Lexingotn, Shakespeare in the Park, SCAPA, and Woodford Theater. She went on to win the Smitty award for Best Lighting Design in the plays "Wings" and "Quilters." Currently, Lynda Matusek designs lighting for various shows at Studio Players and the Woodford Theater. She also designs lighting productions for Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio and Lima, Ohio, as well as De La Dance Company's performances at the Aronoff Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

- The Lynda Matusek papers (dated 1979-2014, undated; 1.38 cubic feet; 7 boxes) are primarily composed of lighting cue sheets and lighting design plans designed by Lynda Matusek for ballet and theater productions in Lexington. Matusek created these lighting designs primarily for the Lexington Ballet Company, and especially for their Nutcracker and spring and fall galas from 1980-2003. This collection also contains photographs and color slides from various theatrical/dance performances, two VHS cassettes, Modern Dance/Kentucky fliers and programs, and correspondence between professional dancers Suzanne Grace and Mary Bruce Blackner with Modern/Dance Kentucky.
