Collection Overview

Biography / History
Josephine Neal (1848-1924) and James Morton (1833-1920) grew up in the Barren County region of south central Kentucky. The two married in the summer of 1867 after nearly a year of courtship. James was a Presbyterian minister like Josephine's father, Reverend William Neal Sr. Josephine's brother William Neal was killed in 1864 fighting for the Confederate Army.
