Collection Overview

Biography / History
Sallie Price (1874-1962) of Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of Isaac Davis and Maria Davis of Woodford County, was as a cook and a housekeeper for Mrs. Russel des Cognets of Lexington, Kentucky. Sallie Price married William Warren (1868-?) and after his death later married Holly Price (1865-1933), son of Mary Thacker, who was a laborer for the Louisville-Nashville Railroad. Sallie Price and William Warren's daughter, Jennie Lee Armstrong (1890-1978) worked as cooks in Lexington, Kentucky. Jennie Lee Armstrong resided in Long Island, New York with her first husband, William Green, who served as a jockey, hostler, and was in the United States Navy. After his death, Jennie Lee Armstrong moved back to Lexington, Kentucky and married Monroe Armstrong (1901-1970), a janitor for the First National Bank Building of Lexington, Kentucky. Monroe Armstrong's brother, Moro Armstrong (?-1970) served as a chauffeur for Gilmore Nunn and was married to Lola Armstrong (1901-1979). Sallie Price's cousin, Anna (Annie) Lee Jackson (1875-1949), a laundress of Lexington, Kentucky married Taylor M. Lewis, a barber who later became a foot specialist. She later married Jeffry Jackson (1875-1941), son of Willis Jackson and Clara Madison, who worked as a porter for the Phoenix Hotel of Lexington, Kentucky.
