    Minutes of the E1ecutive Corn'nittee of the Board of 'rustees
of the Univ-3rsity for iNovrmber 21, 1923.



     The executive Committee of the Baard of Trustees of the
University met in regular monthly session in the office of the
President at the University at 11:30 a. Pi., November 21, 1923.
The follov-ing members were nresent: H. IJ. Froman, R. G. Gordon,
and R. C. Stoll.  Frank L. McVey, President of the University,
and Wallingzton Patrick, Secretary of the Board, were present.

     The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as published.

     (i) Renort of the Businesa ;gent.   The report of the Business

   .'.'y dear President:

        The city, in extending Lexington Avenre through to
   Wins'oow Street used a 50 foot right of way including
   street and sidle ralk.  The lot that the Univer^sity
   owns is Number 57 and was 32.5 feet wide on the XV.inslow
   Street frontage.  The street rand sidewalk reduce this
   frontage to 22,.75 feet, making a. frontaga of 9.75 that
   should be deeded to the city.

        The lot originally cost the University $   750.00
        To tlhis miust be added the following

to pQss an ordinance to provide finds for the payment t6 the

was called to the attention of the I~ecutive Committee that the
ne.xt Tneeting of the Board of Trustees -as set for December 11,
'9 ?3.  It vwa s also pointed out that December 11 is the date
tf the inau-uraticn o n the Governor of the State and members
of the 2xecxu!iTe Commit! tee were of the opinion that it is
desizahile to have the ;Governor present for the December meet-
i.nR of the Board, and therefore, directed tLrit the Secretary
can1 the next meeting of the Board of Trustees for Wednesday,
December 19.

     (5) L.,qp of Building, on Robinson Progerty to 0..S. Perr.

Xentuclky, making application to 13ase one of the University
huildinns located at  uicksard, Kentucky.    A motion was made
and seconded authorizing Dean Cooper to advise Mr. Perry t1vt
Mr. Pellham Johnston, acting as attorne- for the TJniversity,
will be authorized to 3nter into a lease v-ith him.

     (6) Rencrt of the Board of Trustees tc% the Legislpture.
The report of the Board of T-Pustees to the Legislature wvas
formulated byT the iExecittive Conmittee and the motion was made,
seconded, and adopted, authorizing the President to have it
printed.

     ('7) Patterson Memorial Tablet.  The 1,ilrding for a tablet
on the Patterson Mdemorial was presented -nd approved by the
%ommittee.  The rPresident was authorized to purchase a tablet
-t a cost of approximately two hundred dollars.

     (8) Contract for Removal of Houses frorm Universi
_r -rton.       Robinson Tract.  President blfcVey presented to
&Lhe Committee two agreements for the removal of houses on the
tfaiversity property on the Robinson Tract.   These agreements
erze authorized incorporated in the minutes.



        Agreement aitered into this 23 day oL October, 1923
   between Tony Cheney of Ary, Kentucky Fnd the University oX
   Kentucky as follows:   In consideration for matorial3s in
   houses qnd camp sLheds in and around 3Buckhorn, Kentucky
   Tcny Chen", contracts to dismantle the same removino. foundr--
   tions, all materials ntnd refuse with the sxception of
   machine shed, mill shed, three houses on hill, school house
   Z..nd store.




 









     It as further agreed that the said Cony Theney may
begin such .r k on or before Niovember 1, 1923 and all
build inns as stated above shall be removed. from the property
of the University of Kentucky on or before February 1, 1924.

     It is also agreed t1z t the holders of leases from the
E. (. Robinson .Iountain Fund may ocdupy the houses held by
them under their leases until their expiration.   At such
time the aforesaid Tony Cheney shall remove the houses,
sheds and fences as agreed above.

     Agreement and contract entered into by Blaine Short of
Jackson, Kentucky, and the Univrrsit7 of Kentucky this 23
day ofo October, 1923, as follows:  The above Blaine Short
agrees and contracts to remove from the Breck Combsr farm
and owned by the University of XKentucky all houses, out
buildings, fences and refuse with the exception of two
houses Gmown as green Watkins' house and the house occupied
by Duhvall Bax and such other houses, probably two in number
that may be held under leases for a period longer than
January 1, 1924.   Such. horses as are under lease shall
be removed at the expiration of such leases by Blaine Short.

     It is further agreed by said Blaine Short that the
ground extending from the North Fork to the top of the
hill and from the Quicksand to the last house on the rail-
rooud, about 1500 feet from the Ouicksant, shall be left in
good tillablo.. conclition.

     It is further agreed between the ssaid Blmine Short and
the University of Kentucky that the removal of houses, out
buildings, fences and re-;use in the area. described above
shall be completed on or before March 15, 1924.    In c on-
sideration for such removal the said Blinie Short shall hold
and own all materials in buildin;a and fences.

of Miss -Frances Jewell --s Dean of Women wti.s of-fered, seconded,
and adopted:

        The Erecutive Comrmittee desires to express its ap-
   preciF tion of the services of Miss Fronces Jewell as Denn
   of Women, and -accepts her resignation -vith -egret.  Her
   duties in the cvpavity of De..n of Women haive been performed
   fd.ithfully n'nd well.  Her l?.Pelrship cimona the young
   women of the University has been e:emp1ory and outstanding,
   and she hns, at nll times, heen held in highest esteem
   and affection by the student body.   Her grant abilitv, Ps
   Detn of Women, her fine qualities of leadership, her chnrrm
   and grace, and high ideRls of womanhood have attrncted
   attention over the entire State, and in other states, and

by the Committee:

     Appointment of Miss Sarah Blandinr, as Acting Bean of Women
for the remainder of the year, Miss BlandinZ to retain her posi-
tion as instructor, her total salary to be on the basis of ;2,000
a year.

     Change in title of 1Mr. L. P. Benjamin from Assistant Bacteri-
ologist to Serologist.

      ransfer of 1Mr. E. C. Vaughn to position of Field Agent in
Marketing at his present salary of +32,500 a year, effective No-
vember 1, 1923.

     Appointment of IMrfiss Muriel Hopkins as Instructor in Home
Economics, her employment to be in cooperation with the Red Cross
Association.   The University is to pay her a salary of k900 a
year, effective November 1, 1923.

     Cancellation o-f apnoint'mont of Miss Zlizabeth Iivans.  This
waqs made at -he previous meeting and. she can not accept the offer.

     Increase in salary of Nlis- MIargaret Gentry, clerk and ac-
pountant in the Departiwint of rarm Economics, from $1,080 to
*$1,200 a rear, effective January 1, 1924.

     Increase in salary of Miss Lana Williams, clerk in the De-
partment of Farm Economics, from ?900 to T:l,020 a year, effective
January 1, 1924.

     Continunt.ion of employment on 0. R. Carrithers as county
agent, Knott County, from October-1, 1923 to September 30, 1924,
at a salary of tlG0.83 1/3 a month.

     Continun.tion of employment of J. V. Coleman as county agent,
Larue County, from October 1, 1923 to September 30, 1924, at a
salary of h~175 a month.

     Continuation of employment of H. it. E1arth as county agent,
Crittenden County, from November 1, 1923 to February 14, 1924, at
a salary of ;l75 a month.

     Appointment of G. 7. Bacot as assistant county agent, Chris-
