mean something to you. You need
to hear about Blevins seeing her
sister‘s blood on the car's dash
board

Whalen's death affected almost
everyone on this campus ~ either
(IIrectIy or indirectly. yet the SGA
people told me that the turnout for
their Alcohol Awareness Week Pro—
grams has not only been low. but
just as low as usual.

magistrate yesterday Thursday or-
dered David Allen Russell to re-
main jailed without bond on
charges that he threatened the life
of Republican presidential nominee
George Bush.

Russell, 21. is a serious threat
both to himself and others, Magis-
trate Stewart Elliott ruled follow—
ing a hearing here in US. District
(‘ourt

"I find he is a serious threat to
this community and to others. in—

cluding political candidates that
will be in this area," Elliott said.
“There is evidence he has suicidal
tendencies.“

Russell, who appeared at the
hearing wearing orange jail
clothes, showed no emotion when
he heard the ruling. He waived his
right to a preliminary hearing and
was retured to the Daviess County
Detention Center.

He was arrested early Tuesday
morning at the home he shares
with his mother. Beatrice.

Russell is charged with threaten
ing to take the life of or to inflict
bodily harm on the vice president,

and sending a threatening letter
through the US. Postal Service fol
lowing a Bush rally in Owensboro.

Secret Service agents testified
Russell has confessed to sending
the letter as well as a second one to
President Ronald Reagan

Both were unsigned.

Agent Don Bell said the second
letter was received at the White
House Oct. 14 — about 1‘: weeks
after the first ~~ and read: "Dear
President Reagan. obviously you
have chosen to ignore my warning.
which tells me you are a very fool-
ish man."

The second letter continued that

if Bush wins the election. "he will
be executed and his blood Wlll be
