- Biography / History
- Everett Wade Bedinger (1830-1916) was born in Kenton County, Kentucky to Benjamin Franklin Bedinger M.D. (1797-1871), a doctor and farmer, and Sarah Everett Wade Bedinger (1800-1880). E.W. Bedinger became a Christian in the spring of 1849. In 1851, he graduated from Yale University. On June 1, 1852, he married Sally Eleanor Lucas (abt. 1833-1867). They had seven children together, two daughters and five sons. He became active in church work and became superintendent of the Sabbath School and an Elder in the Richwood Presbyterian Church. In September of 1857, Bedinger entered the Theological Seminary. In April of 1859, he was ordained and at once entered upon the full work of the ministry. During his early years of ministry, Bedinger dealt with the conditions of his churches that were being disturbed by war between the United and Confederate States. In the fall of 1876, Bedinger accepted a call to the pastorate of the Presbyterian Church in Shepherdstown, Virginia for three years. During this time, he married his second wife, Anna Moore Billmyer (1845-1917), on March 16, 1869. They had seven children together, five daughters and two sons. In the spring of 1870 he accepted a call to the Florence and Richwood churches in Boone County, Kentucky, in which he remained in charge until 1878 when he took charge of the church in Anchorage, Kentucky. In connection with the church Bedinger was Chaplain and teacher of Moral Science and Evidences of Christianity in Bellewood Female Seminary. With his work at the seminary, he was then called by the Synod of Kentucky to take charge of its Evangelistic work. He became the Treasurer of the Evangelistic Fund and Chairman of the Synod's Committee and continued his work until his death.
- American Letters collector Wade Hall (1934-2015) was a native of Union Springs, Alabama. Starting in 1962, he lived in Louisville, where he taught English and chaired the English and Humanities/Arts programs at Kentucky Southern College and Bellarmine University. He also taught at the University of Illinois and the University of Florida. He held degrees from Troy State University (B.S.), the University of Alabama (M.A.), and the University of Illinois (Ph.D.). He served for two years in the U.S. Army in the mid-fifties. Dr. Hall was the author of books, monographs, articles, plays, and reviews relating to Kentucky, Alabama, and Southern history and literature. His most recent books include A Visit with Harlan Hubbard; High Upon a Hill: A History of Bellarmine College; A Song in Native Pastures: Randy Atcher's Life in Country Music; and Waters of Life from Conecuh Ridge.

- The Reverend Everett W. Bedinger letters (dated 1865-1903, 1981-1983, undated; 5.85 cubic feet; 13 boxes) comprise letters that document E.W. Bedinger's work with the Presbyterian Church and the Evangelistic Fund throughout his career in Kentucky and Virginia in the latter half of the nineteenth century. These letters are from other members of the Presbyterian Church detailing things such as issues within their churches, needing someone to run a church, sending Bedinger money for the Evangelistic Fund, and occasionally voicing their options about what they think should be done within the church. There is some documentation from Bedinger's work on the Evangelistic Fund. There are close to one hundred different correspondents within the collection and major correspondents include E.O. Guerrant. Guerrant was one of Bedinger's fellow minsters who helped work out some of the issues within the church after the Civil War. Also within the collection are receipts of payments that Bedinger received and paid throughout his career in the church.

Bedinger letters are part of the Wade Hall Collection of American letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
