- Businessman, historian, lawyer. Bennett Henderson Young, a native of Jessamine County, Ky. interrupted his education at Centre College in Danville, Ky. in 1862, in order to enter Company B, Eighth Kentucky Regiment, Morgan's Cavalry, C.S.A. After the war, Young studied law in Ireland and Scotland and then returned to the United States to open a law practice in Louisville, Ky. in 1868. He was involved in railroad ventures, served as a delegate to the Kentucky Constitutional Convention in 1891 and wrote several books concerning the history of Presbyterianism in Kentucky and military history. Among his works are: "CONFEDERATE WIZARDS OF THE SADDLE", concerning his experiences in John Hunt Morgan's cavalry; "HISTORY AND TEXTS OF THE THREE CONSTITUTIONS OF KENTUCKY"; and "A HISTORY OF JESSAMINE COUNTY, KENTUCKY".
- Scope and Content
- The bulk of the collection is comprised of a scrapbook of clippings concerning the 1891 Kentucky Constitutional Convention. The scrapbook, containing clippings from Kentucky newspapers, includes biographies of the delegates. Also included are a letter to a fellow Jessamine County historian and a typescript of "DIVISION OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN KENTUCKY", which was published in 1892 in "UNION SEMINARY MAGAZINE".
