Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- Joyland Park was an amusement park built and operated by the Sauer family, who also owned Bluegrass Park. In 1942, Garvice Kincaid, M.C. Haddix, and Carl King purchased the park and ran it until 1964, when the park closed. The park was torn down around 1965 and replaced with a neighborhood also named Joyland. The park included attractions such as a funhouse, The Rocket, pool, pony rides, and two roller coasters (Kiddie Koaster and Wildcat).

- The David Hooden photographs of Joyland (dated circa 1950s; 0.3 cubic feet; 2 boxes) consist of photographs and ephemera related to Joyland, an amusement park located in Lexington, Kentucky. The photographs depict the Laff in the Dark funhouse; The Rocket attraction; aerial shots of the park; the pool; roller coasters; and the picnic area. The ephemera includes a pamphlet for Kentucky Ham and tickets for the rides.
