- Biography / History
- Thomas Robert McBeath was born in Monticello, Kentucky, on March 18, 1839. He grew up in Leitchfield, Kentucky where he attended school. In spring 1861, he started studying law and by autumn he was recruiting members for the Kentucky Infantry. His regiment was organized at Rochester, Kentucky, on December 16, 1861. McBeath served as regimental quartermaster, holding that position until the unit was mustered out of service on March 29, 1865. After the war, McBeath practiced law and in August 1880 became a judge in the Sixth Judicial District in Kentucky. McBeath died in 1915.

- The Thomas Robert McBeath papers (dated 1860-1911; 0.23 cubic feet; 1 box) contain letters written by and to Thomas Robert McBeath during the Civil War as well as military supply requisition forms. While camped in Kentucky and Tennessee, McBeath wrote the largest number of letters to his fiancee, Nannie Wortham. Additionally, he wrote to and received correspondence from his cousins, friends, father, and other military officers. The supply requisition forms reflect his work as a quartermaster during the Civil War.
