- Biography / History
- Maryellen Garrison was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1949. She received her BS in Dietetics from the University of Cincinnati in June 1971 and her MS in Community Nutrition from Eastern Kentucky University in June 1984. She graduated on Sunday and began her first home economics cooperative extension agent position in Leslie County, Kentucky, on Monday, June 1971. She worked in Leslie County from 1971-1973, then in Knox County, Ky., from 1973-1986, then in Henry County, Ky., from 1986-2018. A curriculum vitae is available in the collection's donor file.
- Scope and Content
- The Maryellen Garrison papers (dated 1971-2018, undated; 4 cubic feet, 4 record storage cartons) primarily comprise monthly statistical reports; bi-yearly and yearly narrative progress or overview reports; bullit and other award applications; awards received; newsletters/circulars; correspondence; and personnel evaluations documenting the 47-year career of home economics/family and consumer sciences cooperative extension agent Maryellen Garrison. The papers also document the programs and functions of home economics/family and consumer sciences cooperative extension in Kentucky and people and events in Leslie County, Knox County, and Henry County, Kentucky, where Garrison worked and volunteered. The collection also includes a centennial history presentation on family and consumer sciences extension in Kentucky (2014) and records of organizations Garrison volunteered for or was a liaison to, including the Henry County Farmer's Market.
