ARL PRESERVATION PLANNING PROGRAM STUDY "
The UK Libraries will soon be involved in a system—wide preserva-
tion self-study which is expected to last from six to nine months
and will result in an overall preservation plan. with the assis-
tance of a consultant, Michelle Cloonan, Preservation Librarian
at Brown University, a library preservation study team and a
number of task forces will be formed to gather information and
_ prepare reports on such issues as environmental conditions, phy-
sical condition of the collections, organization for preserva-
tion, disaster control, preservation resources, staff and user ,
education, and inter-institutional cooperation.
_ In 1989, the UK Libraries were chosen by the Association of Re- i
search Libraries' Office of Management Services to conduct the
consultant-assisted Preservation Planning Program. The program
typically lasts from six to nine months and will involve two to `
three visits from the preservation expert assigned to us by ARL.
Michelle Cloonan and Jutta Reed-Scott from the OMS office will , »
conduct the first of the visits on March 20-21. . F
During the first visit, the consultants will meet with Paul Wil- I
lis, Director of Libraries, the study team, and the library fa- Q
culty and will also tour the facilities. The study team is made ”
up of Judy Sackett, chair, Judy Brown, Cindy Cline, Cheryl Jones,

LSO’S VALENTINE BAKE SALE .
The Library Staff Organization's annual Valentine's Day Bake Sale
will be held wednesday, February 14, on the third floor of King
North in the staff lounge beginning at 9:30 a.m. There will be a
variety of baked goods for_sale at reasonable prices, as well as _
coffee and tea. During the bake sale, a fancy cake will be raf-
fled. Kathy Noland will be sending a sign-up sheet to each King
department and to the branch libraries asking for volunteers to ‘
make the baked goods. People wishing to join LSO or to renew
their memberships will be able to do so during the bake sale. ‘.
