To Mother. Sturgis describes mail and mail travel and the return of General Emery’s expedition. There is discord in the city from the lack of discipline on the part of General Banks, and had difficulty keeping the rebel citizens in line during a prisoner exchange at the levee. Sturgis writes about his opinions of slaves and 
                        darkeys, the treatment of black officers and the hard feelings between them and the white officers. The rebels attempted another bombing, this time in the navy, but failed.
