- Kenneth G. Pidgeon (b. 1950) is a retired employee of the Kentucky State Division of Water.
- Scope and Content
- The Kenneth Pidgeon collection on mills in Clark and Fayette Counties, Kentucky (dated 1990s-2009; 0.9 cubic feet; 2 boxes, 1 folder; 82.4 MB, 180 digital files) consists of physical and digital research files on mills in Clark and Fayette Counties, Kentucky, compiled by Kenneth G. Pidgeon. Notes are primarily photocopies of deeds, surveys, wills, court cases, and other documents, dating from the early 1780s through 2007, that document the location and history of individual mills. The names of mills and other structures include: Adams/Devore/Poindexter, Armstrong, Boggs Fork, Bowman, Cleveland/Rogers, Francis, Frank/Sharp/Duncan, Grimes, Higbee, McCall, Morgan, Parker, Pettit, Roger, Ryman, Spears/Evans, Tate's Creek, Winn, and Young. Also included are copies of Fayette County maps (1835-1843) and digital files in GPS, GTM, DBF, Shapefile formats, JPEG, Bitmap, and Microsoft Excel formats that plot points taken from deeds and surveys relating to the mills.
- The collection began when Pidgeon was looking for springs in Fayette County as part of his work with the Kentucky State Division of Water. As he located the springs, he also noticed roads named for mills, which lead to his burgeoning interest in finding the remains of mills or mill sites (mill houses, dams, mill races, stone fences) and documenting their location using the Global Positioning System (GPS). To accomplish this, Pidgeon had to locate surveys or maps of each mill.
