     Biographical note 
 James Parton (b. 1912) was an editor and publisher who founded  American Heritage . He spent two summers (1929, 1930) as a courier at the Frontier Nursing Service (FNS) in Leslie County, Kentucky, with his close friend Brooke Kirkland Alexander. In 1933, he and Alexander were invited to go along as assistant cruise directors on the FNS sponsored cruise on the S.S. Belgenland. Parton continued his interest and support of the FNS and later served on the Board of Governors.

     Scope and Contents 
 The James Parton scrapbook (dated circa 1929-1933; 0.1 cubic feet; 1 item) primarily consists of Frontier Nursing Service (FNS) material and memorabilia from a FNS cruise where Parton worked as an assistant cruise director. This material includes photographs, publications, and other ephemera from the cruise to Venezuela aboard the S.S. Belgenland. Additionally, the scrapbook includes newspaper clippings concerning the FNS, FNS pamphlets, photographs of FNS personnel and the Leslie County area, Leslie County political handbills, and a FNS map of Leslie County and part of Clay County.
