Scope and Content
The Mr. Wools travel diary (dated 1869-1872; 0.05 cubic feet; 1 folder) comprises a single travel diary and log of trip expenses of four short trips completed by a Mr. Wools of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Wools traveled to Ottawa, Kansas for three of the four trips he logged in this diary. These trips were from 1869 to 1871, and the purpose of them was to inspect and purchase a plot of land in southern Kansas. Wools traveled by railroad to Kansas and stopped in St. Louis each time for a few days to visit friends for three of the trips. The fourth trip was to San Francisco, California in 1872 for a vacation. This travel diary is short, and does not offer too much detail on each trip other than the dates, destination, mode of transportation and expenses.
The Mr. Wools travel diary is part of the Wade Hall Collection of American letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
