1 ACTS Annual Meeting:
i The ACIS annual meeting will be held August 19th at the
( Carnahan House from 9:00 - 12:00. An agenda will be sent
to members of ACTS prior to the meeting.
There will be time provided for a question and answer session
with Paul Willis and Faith Harders. If you wish, you may
r submit your questions in writing to the Director's Office
ahead of time. (These should be sent by August 15). This
will allow time for any in—depth research for questions
. dealing with University regulations, Personnel policy state-
ments, etc. Of course, questions will also be welcomed from
_ j the floor.
The Director's Office has given permission for the support
` staff to go directly to the Carnahan House rather than report
' to the library first, where this will not inconvenience the
` department. This should be discussed with the department
Q head who has the final decision in this king of matter, since,
I in some cases, provisions must be made in advance for those
_ units that need to be opened, etc. .
The meeting will adjourn around 12:00 and the staff is expected
to report back to the library following lunch. Staff should be
,9 back in their departments around 2:00. ·
LSO Meets:
The Library Staff Organization will be having a brief business
. meeting and special program on oral history given by Terry
Birdwhistell and Bill Cooper on August 18. The business
meeting and refreshments (homemade breads and coffecakes!)
will be at 9:30 a.m. in the Solarium and the featured program
will begin at 10 a.m. in the Gallery.
AIDS Relocatesz
The AIDS Center has moved to 105 King Library South (Reserve
Room) in an effort to make information more easily accessible
to students. Bob Sandrock will join Karen Boucias in staffing
the Center as we expand to include media materials in the
near future.
New Map Department Hours:
In the interest of more efficient use of personnel the Map
Department will be open Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. as
of August 12th.
Anyone for Purdue?
Are there any librarians who would welcome the chance to visit
the Purdue University Libraries, and observe the operations
and collections of their counterparts? Rhoda Channing would
like to visit their Business in the Fall and hopes other
librarians at UK will consider going, sharing expenses and
driving. Call Rhoda if interested.

Note from Administrative Services:
- Just a note to advise you that calls to campus phones (phone
extensions beginning with 3- ) can't be transferred. The ·
caller should be referred to the Campus Operator (258-9000)
for dialing assistance.
Librarian‘s "creed": ~
The following was recently suggested to the Director as
describing some of us in the Library:
We, the unwilling
led by the unknowing
are doing the impossible
for the ungrateful.
{ We have done so much `
for so long
with so little
we are now qualified
to do anything
with nothing. `
