- Lewis Wellington Cochran, Ph.D., held various positions in the Physics Department at the University of Kentucky from June of 1936 until his appointment to full professor in 1957. In 1967, he was named Dean of the Graduate School and served as Provost Dean of the Undergraduate Studies. He was appointed Vice President of Academic Affairs in July of 1970.
