Collection Overview

Biography / History
The McClanahan family trace their roots to Scotland and Ireland, before relocating to America in the 18th century.
Scope and Content
The McClanahan family records are a compilation of the genealogical research done by Mrs. Kathleen B. (McClanahan) Carter. The research was formally arranged and indexed by Mrs. Carter in 1968. The records are organized by state, though the majority of the information concerns Kentucky and Virginia. In each folder, there is a mixture of clan mottos, coat of arms, census records, wills, marriage records, land deeds, and copies of newspaper articles about specific members of the McClanahan family. Each folder has an index of the contents except for the folder with the Virginia records.
