Biography / History
Mary Edith B. Engle (1916-2003), a native of Lexington, Kentucky, served as a Women's Air Force Service Pilot (WASP) during World War II. She enlisted early as part of the 5th Ferrying Group, stationed at Love Field in Dallas, Texas. She flew large military planes, including the B-29. Prior to World War II, she was an active member of the Blue Grass Flying Club and post World War II she was a member of the International Organization of Women Pilots (the Ninety-Nines).

The Mary Edith B. Engle papers (dated 1940-1945; 0.45 cubic feet; 1 box) contain military records, printed materials, and memorabilia related to her service as a Women's Air Force Service Pilot (WASP) during World War II. Included are her operations orders and flight records, which document her travel and delivery of planes for the Army Air Corps; training papers; and printed materials including WASP newsletters, a songbook, the "Final Report on Women Pilot Program", and Wings Over America, a yearbook containing facts about the 5th Ferrying Group.
