Watch those cleats dig in! No matter who wins the game, 1
• gn the grass gets a terrific beating.
lt takes good turf like that of Kentucky’s field to survive such
` if treatment. Just any old grass seed won’t produce good play-
Iwl ing turf. A scientific blend of choice varieties—all first string
material cleaned and recleaned to remove weeds and chaff-
produced the University of Kentucky’s fine field.
The big games in the country today are being played on Turf

l—lere Comes That Team Again. y
The Crimson Tide will get you if you don’t watch out. .
That is the sum and substance of what Chet Wynne, University of Kentucky foot- T
ball coach and athletic director, has been shouting at the Wildcats all this week as he
pointed toward Tuscaloosa, Ala.
For it was at Tuscaloosa that the Red Elephants entrained Thursday for Lexing-
ton, where they arrived yesterday all set to be the pumpkin-headed goblin to make ken-
tucky’s Hallowe’en a realistic affair.
For the past thirteen years Alabama has been Kentucyk’s bugaboo. For thirteen
consecutive years the Crimson Tide has humbled the Wildcats. And thirteen years is
mighty long time. Thirteen is an unlucky number. Thirteen may prove to be Ala-
bama’s undoing.
Those big, blustering Elephants who have been munching other Southern foes ,
like so many peanuts—except the Tennessee Volunteers, who refused to be crunched
—are right here in Lexington, eagerly awaiting a chance to grind the Wildcats into
dust.
()ur Wildcats are ready for them. It is a sorrowful fact that Bob Davis, leading
point maker in the Southeastern Conference, and Wendell Skaggs, regular tackle, are
in no condition to play in today’s game but Bob is rearing to go, anyway. Don’t be
surprised if the Dayton express trots out on the field before this game is over.
You no doubt know that this is Kentucky’s annual homecoming game. Alabama
knows it and Coach Frank Thomas has instructed his boys to ruin the occasion for .
the lVildcats.
How do you like those fancy pennants flying from thirteen flagpoles around the .
stadium? Those pennants represent the members of the Southeastern Conference.
One is of Crimson with the word "Alabama" emblazoned thereon. Wvave a red flag at
a bluegrass bull and see what happens. Chet Wynne has been waving that banner
at the Wildcats all week in an effort to make them mad enough to claw the Crimson
Tide to shreds.
Just before the kickoff you will see a patriotic ceremony the likes of which never ,
have been witnessed on Stoll Field. At the west end of the stadium you can see a 100- l
toot flag pole. Five minutes before the game begins you will see two smartly uni-
formed cadets march to that pole and, while the "Best Band in Dixie" plays the
National anthem, up will go Old Glory.
With l>ands—both Kentucky and Alabama—playing, with flags flying and with
thousands cheering. I{.entucky`s Wildcats this afternoon will make the supreme effort
to hurl back this threat from the cotton country.
The Wildcats have not won a football game from Alabama since 1922. In that
year of hallowed memory Kentucky whipped a great Alabama eleven by 7 to 0. After ‘
that game Alabama vowed to gain revenge. It seems to us that the Tide has drenched
itself with vengeance and now it is time for the Wildcats to get tough.
(Tome on. Wildcats, let’s have a victory. Your standing in National football circles T
will jump to the top flight if you can beat Alabama.
<'oach Thomas. we welcome you as a former team-mate of our Chet Wynne at
f\totre Dame. (`rimson Tide. we welcome you as one of our oldest and most feared
rivals. We hope your stay in Lexington will be pleasant until that referee toots his A i
whistle to start the game this afternoon.
l<`rom that time until the timer blows his final horn we wish you nothing but a lot
of misvl')`.
