Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- Kentucky geologist and historian, Willard Rouse Jillson (1890-1975) authored over 300 geological texts and numerous works pertaining to Kentucky history. Jillson served as the State Geologist of Kentucky from 1919-1932 as well as the director of the Sixth Kentucky Geological Survey from 1920-1921. Additionally, he taught geology at the University of Kentucky in 1918 and at Transylvania University in 1947. He died in 1975.
- Scope and Content
- The Willard Rouse Jillson A Bibliography of the Cumberland River Valley manuscript (dated 1960; 0.23 cubic feet; 1 box) contains rough drafts and galley proofs of the A Bibliography of the Cumberland River Valley. There is an annotated typescript, rough draft galley proofs with hand written entries taped to the pages, a printed galley proof, and German newspapers that came from the Willard Rouse Jillson personal library.
