Minutes of the Meeting of the Board of Trustees of the University of Kentuckly,
uesday, September 20, 1977



    The Board of Trustees of the University of Kentucky met in regular
statutory session at 2:00 o'clock (Eastern Daylight Tin-je) on Tuesday,
September 20, 197?, in the Board Roomr on the 18th floor of the Patterson
Office Tower on the Lexington campus with the following members answering
the call of the roll: ivis. William B. Sturgill, Chairman, Professor Michael
Adelstein, Mr. William R. Black, Mr. L. D. Gorman, Mrs. Betty Carol
Clark, Mr. Albert G. Clay, Mr. Richard E. Cooper, Governor Albert
Benjamin Chandler, Mr. George W. Griffin, Mrs. Sally Hermansdorfer,
Mr. Thomas B. Kessinger, Mr. Zirl A. Palmer, Mr. Frank Ramsey, Mr.
Hormer Ramsey, Professor Paul G. Sears, Dr. David A. Hull, and Dr.
John R. Woodyard. Absent frorn the meeting were: Mr. John R. Gaines,
and Mr. James Newberry. Representatives of the Universit-y- administration
included President Otis A. Singletary; Vice Presidents Lewis W. Cochran,
Robert Zumwinkle, Stanley W--ll, Peter P. Bosornworth, Raymond R. Hornrback,
John T. Smith. Jack C. Blanton, and Donald B. Clapp: Mr. John Darsie,
Legal Counsel; and Dr. Wimbeorly C. R oyster, Dean of the Graduate School
and Coordinator of Research. Representatives from the various news media
were also in attendance.


    A. Meeting Opened

    The Chairman called the meeting to order at 2:00 p. m. Following the
irvocation pronounced by Mr. Black and the administration of the oath of
office to Former Governor Albert Benjamin Chandler and Professor Michael
Adelstein by Mr. John Darsie, the secretary called the roll and reported a
quorum present. The Chairman welcomed Governor Chandler and reported
that he was appointed for a four -year term beginning July 1, 1977, and ending
June 30, 1981, and expressed his pleasure that Professor Adelstein was
beginning his second term as a faculty Trustee, effective July 1, 1977,
through June 30, 3980.

    The meeting weas declared officially open for the conduct of business at
2:05 p.m.


    B. Election of Officers and Executive Committee

    Mr. Ramsey placed in nomination the names of Mrs. Betty Carol Clark
for assistant secretary, Professor Paul Sears for secretary, Mr. Albert G.
Clay for vice chairman, and Mr. William B. Sturgill for chairman. It was
moved, seconded and carried that the nominations be closed and the above
be elected by acclamation.
