Clemson s Tigers; Look Out, Wildcats
A When the University of Kentucky athletic authorities scheduled Clemson last win-
- ter, there were many here in Lexington who exclaimed: "Just another set—up; not much
l better than Maryville." That was before the present football season began and before
_ the Clemson Tigers had started their triumphant march. .
The Wildcats have known for a long time that Clemson was no set—up. The fans have
known it since October 31 when Clemson arose to great heights and defeated a great
Georgia Tech eleven by 14 to 13 at Atlanta. It will be recalled —— but why open old
wounds—that this same Georgia Tech eleven humiliated our Wildcats to 34 to 0 at this
same Atlanta. On basis of comparative scores, Clemson should be able to take Ken-
‘ tucky by 35 points.
Set—up; well. hardly, unless the Wvildcats are the set-up; However, we have our
doubts that Clemson will be able to roll up that big a victory over the Kentuckians. In
i fact the Wildcats will have a very good chance of defeating the Tigers.
Clemson is no stranger to Stoll Field. The Tigers appeared here two years ago and
staged a gallant battle to hold Kentucky to a 7 to O victory which was not won until the
final minutes. That game witnessed the starring of little Abie Ayers, who figured prom-
I inently in the lone Wildcat scoring drive.
Clemson is coached by Jess Neely, former Vanderbilt star and former assistant at
Vandy to Uncle Dan I\IcGugin.
The game this afternoon will be the final home appearances of Bert Johnson, Gene
Myers, Captain Stanley Nevers, Joe Huddleston, Lexie Potter, Bob Pritchard and Joe
Orr. \Vildcat seniors who have done fine work for Kentucky on the gridiron. ‘
