Documenting COVID-19 in the Commonwealth

Name: Janie Teter
Date of Submission: 2020 May 6

Biography: Retired teacher FCPS 19 years. I graduated with my Bachelors & Masters degrees in
Education at UK around 1997. I also worked at UK in various offices in the early 90's. My
husband is also an Alumni of UK. He worked in the MICU for 20 years beginning in 1980. He is
now a Nurse Practitioner for Hospice of the Bluegrass.

COVID-19 Experience: The worst part of the Pandemic are the lives lost. The sacrifices made
are unbelievable. The first responders are true heroes. It's been a tremendous emotional impact
during a life interrupted. The loss of income and economic struggles have created a divide
between staying healthy at home and the economy. For me personally the loss of my contacts
with my grandchildren has been heartbreaking. The loss of my freedom has been tough at times.
The potential loss of my own life has been present on my mind everyday. I am 66 years old with
heart disease and diabetes. Calling all angels to get us through.
