- Biography / History
- Robert Penn Warren was born in Guthrie, Kentucky, in 1905. He attended public schools, graduated from Vanderbilt University, and became a Rhodes Scholar. He worked as a professor of English and playwriting at several American universities. A writer of novels, plays and poetry, Warren received numerous awards, including Pulitzer prizes for both fiction and poetry. He was one of the United States' leading literary figures and was named Poet Laureate of the United States.
