- Dr. H.H. Downing was an University of Kentucky alumni, mathematics professor, and tennis coach. Downing coached the UK men's team for 29 years (1922-1946; 1952-1957), longer than any other UK coach besides Adolph Rupp. The recreation courts at the Boone Varsity Tennis Complex were named in his honor.

- The H.H. Downing autobiography, "Trickles" Sixty Years on the Same Campus (dated circa 1950s; 0.23 cubic feet; 1 box) consists of a typed draft of H.H. Downing's autobiography which details his associatin with the University of Kentucky from his time as a student through his tenure as UK's tennis coach and a mathematics professor. The autobiography includes his early childhood reminiscences, a detailed account of his time as a student at UK in the early 1900s, an account of his service training a World War I automotive engineer corp, and a detailed telling of his career as UK's tennis coach.
