Collection Overview

Biography / History
Bennett Henderson Young (1843-1919) was an officer in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. Following the war, Young studied law at the Queen's University of Ireland and the University of Edinburgh before returning to Kentucky to be an attorney and author in Louisville. Young founded the first black orphanage in Louisville and helped create the Louisville Free Public Library.
