Collection Overview

Scope and Content
The Thomas Todd in this case could possibly be Thomas Todd (1765- 1826) who served as an Associate Justice of the United States (1807-1826) although there is no evidence in the materials to verify this.
The materials are comprised of legal documents and supporting evidence gathered in a lawsuit concerning a land dispute in Fayette County, Kentucky. The case, heard in Fayette County, Kentucky Circuit Court, concerned twelve hundred acres in Madison County, Kentucky and contains summonses, depositions, surveys and documentation. Included is a land grant (1782) to William Bush from the governor of Virginia, Benjamin Harrison, and a land grant (1791) to Thomas Todd signed by the governor of Kentucky, Isaac Shelby.
