- The Strater Brothers Tobacco Company of Louisville manufactured several popular brands of chewing and smoking tobacco. The Burley Tobacco Company purchased Strater Brothers in 1912. Following the purchase, the company became known as the Strater Brothers branch of the Burley Tobacco Company.

- The Strater Brothers Tobacco Company records comprise correspondence, contracts, trademark certificates, insurance policies, tax returns, account books, check stubs, deposit slips, vouchers, and bank statements, relating to the company's operations as an independent entity and as a branch of the Burley Tobacco Company. The records reflect the company's relationships with suppliers and distributors; the Burley Tobacco Company; the United States government, the Kentucky state government, and the City of Louisville; and trade associations such as the Trade Mark Association of Plug Tobacco Manufacturers.
