Collection Overview

Biography / History
Kentucky Utilities (KU) started services on December 2, 1912. In 1998, KU was acquired by Louisville Gas and Electric Company (LGamp;E). As of 2010 LG&E and KU Energy, a litmited liability company is owned by Pennsylvania Power & Light Company (PPL). Kentucky Utilities was founded to serve five areas of Kentucky and has grown to serve 77 Kentucky counties and five Virginia counties. At its beginning, KU provided a variety of services to customers, including deliviries of ice; now it primarily offers coal and dam generated electricity. Since 1999 LG&E and KU Energy has investment in power companies throughout the world, including in Argentina, Spain, and Germany.
