Collection Overview

Biography / History
The University of Kentucky Dames Club was first organized in November of 1945 and became affiliated with the National Association of Dames on November 12, 1946. The Dames Club was formed by the wives of UK students whose members played bridge, did various crafts, and performed fashion shows. Members of the Dames Club also volunteered at local orphanages and nursing homes.
Scope and Content
The Dames Club records contain financial documents from the late 1940s, election results from Elizabeth Dawson's presidency, correspondence from the UK chapter to others, member questionnaires, rosters, information cards, and other historical information covering 1945-1968. The collection also contains a 1965-1969 scrapbook that has been disassembled for preservation purposes. A preservation photocopy of the original scrapbook is in Folder 13; the materials and photographs have been removed.
