- E. Reed Wilson was a lawyer and the mayor of Lexington, Ky. Born in Lexington, Ky., Wilson attended the University of Kentucky and was admitted to the Kentucky bar in 1910. Active in the Democratic party, Wilson was elected mayor of Lexington in 1935. Thereafter he remained an active businessman.
- Scope and Content
- The E. Reed Wilson papers are the documents of E. Reed Wilson who was elected mayor of Lexington, Ky. in 1935. Most of the materials relate to Wilson's term as mayor. There are several personal letters, congratulatory and thank you notes, invitations and receipts. Also included are Wilson's reports and correspondence concerning government business, and newspaper clippings covering his term. Letters, photographs and newspaper clippings document Wilson's trip to Havana, Cuba for the first Pan American Congress of Municipalities in 1938. A scrapbook chronicles the premier of the motion picture KENTUCKY which took place in Los Angeles on December 14, 1938. Wilson and Kentucky Governor A. B. Chandler attended the premier. Newspaper articles, invitations and a telegram to Wilson from producer Louis B. Mayer are contained in the Wilson papers. Wilson and Chandler appear in many of the photographs along with several Hollywood movie stars.
