The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the University of Kentucky met in regular monthly session in the President's office at the University of Kentucky on Wednesday, Miarch 13, 1929. The following members were present: Mr. Rob- ert C. Gordon, Judge Richard C. Stoll, Senator H. M. Froman, Mr. James Park. Meeting with the Committee were Frank L. McVey, President of the University, and Wellington Patrick, Secretary of the Board. 1. Approval of the Minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting of the Executive Committee were read and on motion, dauly seconded, approved as published. 2, Report of the Business Agent, The report of the Bus- iness Agent was received and ordered incorporated in the Min- utes. Changes in Fire Equipment. A communication was read from tIhe City Fire Marshall asking for certain changes in the fire equipment on several of the University buildings. The mat- ter was referred to the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for a definite report. 5. Names of Dormitories. The matter of names for the men's dormitories was presented and a motion was made, seconded and carried that the three men's residence halls at the University be named respectively Hall C in honor of W. B. Kinkead, Hall B, W. C. P. Breckinridge, and Hall A, Governor W. 0. Bradley. 6. Plans for University Library. Preliminary plans for a library building for the University were presented and examined. No action was taken. 7. Heat in the Forge Shop. Motion was made, seconded and carried authorizing the expenditure of $780 for making the neces- sary heating changes in the University Forge Shop. 8. Lighting Fixtures for Memorial Building. Motion was made, seconded and carried authorizing acceptance of the bid of Edwin F. Guth Company of St. Louis, Missouri for $1766 for light- ing fixtures for the Memorial Building. 10. Dedication of Memorial Building. A committee consisting of James Park and Louis Hillenmeyer was appointed to arrange with the committee of the American Legion for dedicatory exercises of the Memorial Building. 11. Retirement of Faculty Members. The question of changing the employment of faculty members who have reached the age of seventy was discussed and the following motions were made and carried: MOVED, That beginning with July 1, 1929, Professor A. M. Peter be placed on a new basis of employment at $181.33 per month, with the title of Emeritus and Chemist of the Experiment Station, Professor of Soil Technology, and that he be requested to carry out the work suggested by the President of the Universi- ty, namely chemical research in Kentucky, reporting his progress to the President of the University from time to time, to act as chairman of the committee on manuscripts in the Experiment Station with no other duties until other arrangements are made. MOVED, That beginning with July 1, 1929, Professor M. L. Pence be placed on a new basis of employment at $177.50 per month with the title, "Emeritus Professor of Physics" and that he be requested to work on "The Early History of the University," reporting his progress to the President of the University from time to time. 14. MOVEDi That,beginning July 1, 1929, Professor MlcHenry Rhoads be placed on a new basis of employment at t102.00 Der month with the title "Emeritus Professor of Education" and that he be requested to codify the education laws of the state reporting his progress to the President of the Universi- ty from time to time. MOVED, That, beginning with July 1, 1929, Professor Glan- ville Terrell be placed on a new basis of employment at 1120.00 Der month with the title "Emeritus Professor of Philosophy" and be requested to work on The History of Land Grants to the State of Kentucky, reporting his progress to the President of the University from time to time. MOVED, That beginning with July 1, 1929, Professor J. W. Pryor be placed on a new basis of employment at ^.203.16 per month with the title Emeritus Professor of Physiology" and that he be requested to continue his present research work and report his progress to the President of the University from time to time. MOVED, That beginning with July 1, 1929, Professor Harrison Garman be placed on a new basis of employment at 160.00 per month with the title "Emeritus Professor of Entomology" and that he be requested to work up the History of Entomology in Xentucky reporting progress to the President of the University from time to time. 12. University Commons, On recommendation of President McVey, the following motion with respect to the University Com- .mons was adopted: That the present name of the University Cafe- teria be changed to University Commons; that the University Com- mons be set up as a separate organization; that Miss Lily Kohl be made Director of the University Commons; and that any cafe- terias in the future which may be operated on the University campus be placed under the direction of the director of the University Commons. 13. Fire at Robinson Sub-Station. The President reported a fire at the Robinson Sub-Experiment Station at Quicksand, One of the small cottages was destroyed. Insurance on the building was 11200 and this is in process of adjustment. Pres- ident McVey also reported the damage by wind storm to a barn at Campbellsburg,loca~ted on one of the experiment farms at that place. 14. Report of Athletic Association. A report from the Athletic Association was received and read and ordered incor- porated in the minutes.
