- Biography / History
- Thomas Buckner settled in Virginia around 1780 and married Hannah Burton of Virginia. Together, Thomas and Hannah Buckner had twenty children. Among them was, Colonel Robert Buckner, an officer of the War of 1812 and a figure associated with General John Hunt Morgan's invasion of the North, July 9, 1863. Robert Buckner maintained a mercantile business, Buckner & Hughes Wholesale Grocers, Commission, Forwarding and Boat Store Merchants located on Commercial Row in Louisville, Kentucky.

- The Robert Buckner papers consist of mercantile records of Colonel Robert Buckner, Brandenburg and Louisville, Kentucky. Included is correspondence, indentures, contracts, promissory notes and receipts all relating to Robert Buckner's mercantile business; Buckner & Hughes Wholesale Grocers, Commission, Forwarding and Boat Store Merchants located on Commercial Row in Louisville, Kentucky.
