- Businessman, politician, farmer. Cyrenius Wait, a native of Massachusetts, came to Kentucky in 1818 where he acquired extensive land holdings in Pulaski County. He was a successful businessman with interests in coal mining, farming and mercantile ventures, as well as unusual enterprises such as salt making and silk production in Somerset, Kentucky. Wait became state school commissioner for Pulaski and Casey Counties in 1843, and was a senator in the Kentucky legislature in 1850. He also served as President of the Somerset branch of Farmer's Bank, and an agent for the Mutual Life Insurance Company.
- Scope and Content
- These materials consist of correspondence and papers related to Cyrenius' business dealings. Included are land transactions and surveys, land plats, bills of sale, receipts, a journal and business accounts from the many business and land transactions in which Wait was involved.
