Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- The Bluegrass Organic and Consumers Association, Inc. (BOCA), was chartered by the Commonwealth of Kentucky on January 20, 1972. BOCA was an organization of citizens joined in an endeavor to educate both its members and the general public about the advantages of organic farming techniques in raising good supplies for human consumption. The group hoped that, through education, consumers would choose food raised according to natural and organic principles. Any environmental of consumer situation which affected those food supplies was a concern for BOCA members. The Good Foods Co-Op in Lexington, Kentucky was built out of BOCA.

- The Bluegrass Organic and Consumer Association, Inc., records (dated 1970-2021; 0.8 cubic feet; 3 boxes) comprise bulletins, newsletters, correspondence, notes, publications, newspaper clippings, and cassette tapes that document the work of the Bluegrass Organic and Consumer Association, Inc. This collection contains the majority of the Bluegrass Organic and Consumer Association's bulletins from the time of its founding in 1971 through its dissolution in 1976.
