, INSTITUTIONAL SELF—STUDY
The University of Kentucky, like each other institution with lengthy
membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, must
have its accreditation reaffirmed normally every ten years. A
significant part of the reaffirmation process is the Institutional
Self-Study Program in which institutions participate according to a
‘ schedule established by the Southern Association's Commission on
Colleges. For the University of Kentucky, however, the University
System and each of the com unity colleges in the Com unity College
System engage in separate self—studies and have their accreditations
reaffirmed independently. The University's thirteen community
colleges started their self—studies about one year ago.
A Steering Committee has been formed and it will be charged with the
responsibility for organizing the University System Self—Study and
seeing that it progresses on schedule. The Committee, in turn, will
be recommending the establishment of at least twelve other committees
concerned with the individual accreditation standards and with
planning for the future. Additionally, the Steering Committee will
arrange for all colleges and most departments and other educational
units to conduct self—studies during the 1980-8l academic year.
It is expected that the Self-Study will, after appropriate preliminary
activities, start on September l, l980, and conclude in the 1982
spring semester with an evaluation by a Visiting Committee appointed
by the Commission on Colleges.
KENTUCKY SOLINET USERS' GROUP
The Kentucky SOLINET Users' Group will meet at King Library in the
Gallery on Friday, July 25, 9 a.m. until mid—afternoon.
The agenda includes a business meeting and program. The program (late
morning and afternoon) will include speakers from the University of
Louisville Library and the Kentucky Department of Library and Archives
who will be discussing their libraries' uses of SOLINET/OCLC in
acquisitions and interlibrary loan. In addition, Ken Thomas, SOLINET
Training Coordinator, will be here to describe SOLINET's developing
COM catalog service.
The meeting is open and all those interested are encouraged to attend.
Coffee will be served in the King North Lobby at 8:30 a.m. preceding
the start of the meeting.

Over the ten years that I have been at the University of Kentucky
Medical Center, the library has been a constant source of joy and
intellectual satisfaction. Now, it has become the time for me to
move to another institution and I would like to take this
opportunity to thank you personally as well as your entire staff
for the constant support and help that you have provided me in so
many ways.
I have known many medical libraries including those of Yale and
the University of Rochester. None of these can best Kentucky in
terms of services provided and the general helpfulness of the
