- Biography / History
- Edward Lewis "Ed" Swift was the Director/Manager of the University of Kentucky Printing Services from 1948-1983. He was born in Cinncinnati, Ohio, on June 11, 1922, and lived in Winchester, Kentucky, his entire life. From 1940-1943, as a student at the university, he worked as a printer for the Kentucky Kernel. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, serving in Beligum, Franc, and Germany. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the 75th Division. He returned to Kentucky and in March 1947 began working as a supervisor in the University of Kentucky Printing Division. In 1948, he was promoted to Director/Manager of variously, the Department of Printing, the Printing Plant, and Printing Services. He retired in March 1983. He married Ann Bryant Swift, and they had three daughters, Judy, Sarah Ann, and Marilyn. Ed Swift died on May 27, 2011.

- The Edward L. Swift papers (dated 1947-1983; 0.2 cubic feet; 1 slim document box and 1 oversize folder) comprise photographs, printed material, and the personnel record documenting the career of Edward L. "Ed" Swift, who worked in printing services at the University of Kentucky from 1940-1943 and from 1947-1983. The photographs include views of the printing department and printing staff in the Grehan/Journalism Building and in the new building on Bolivar Street.
