Collection Overview

Biography / History
The Henry Clay plant was one of several coal camps located in Lookout, Kentucky, an unincorporated community and coal town in Pike County, Kentucky. The Lookout coal camps operated at their height from 1908-1936, with the Henry Clay mine ceasing to operate by the early 1950s. This coal camp, and many others in Kentucky and the greater Appalacia region, supplied Allied Chemical and Dye Corporation, the leading chemical company in America at the time.
