Food

Long gone are the days
of healthy
breakfasts, brown
paper bags and hot
home-cooked meals.
College changes the
very idea of food and
the very essence of
eating but not
necessarily for the
better. Perhaps my
stance is best
illustrated by some
real world examples.

Breakfast

1. Nothing. Class started
five minutes ago, and
putting on your pants
is more important.

2. Cold pizza. It just
happened to be
sitting out next to
your keys when you
had to run back in
the house after you
forgot them the first
time you left.

3. Mountain Dew. The
caffeine should pull
you through half of
your first class.

4. Coffee, for the same
reason as No. 3, but
also because, if held
at the right angle, it
can serve to aid as a
wake up should you
doze off during class.

Lunch

1. Nothing. Either
because you have too
many classes or
because the cold
pizza you ate for
breakfast had been
sitting out for three
days. and now you
have to worship the
porcelain god for an
hour.

2. Something so greasy
that you keep telling
your friend to stop
slurping his soda.
when in fact the
noises you hear are
your arteries
clogging.

3. A hotdog, the scum of
all processed foods,
which never sounded
good until you
realized you could fix
and eat it in two
minutes.

4. Hospital food. You fell
asleep in calculus
and poured your
scalding coffee down
your front.

Dinner

1. Pizza, because it's
cheap, it's easy and
"going out” now
means stepping out
the front door to pay
the delivery guy.

2. Stale Wal-Mart-brand
cheese puffs and
some Citrus Drop
(Kroger brand
Mountain Dew),
because real food
can wait.

3. Pop-tarts, because
you bought them for
breakfast, and now
all they do is sit
around and get stale.

Remember: It's not
whether it’s edible.
it's how hungry you
are.

Bush says hour for action is coming

WASHINGTON Beforea
united Congress and worried na-

Thursday to avenge terrorist at-

clared.

Bush told a joint session of
Congress. “I will not forget this
wound to our country. or those
who inflicted it. I will not yield. I

Bush said the Sept. 1] at-

Bush directed US. military

“The hour is coming when

ists to the 20th century world's
evil forces: “Ry sacrificing hu-
man life to serve their radical vi-
sions by abandoning every
value except the will to power
they follow in the path of fascism
and Nazism and totalitarianism.
And they will follow that path all
the way to where it ends in his

torvs unmarked grave of dis-
carded lives.

Bush explained to a horrified
nation the anti-American hatred
of its enemies. “Great harm has
been done to us. We have suf~
fered great loss and in our grief
and anger we have found our
mission and our moment. Free—
dom and fear are at war."

Still. he assured the nation.
“We‘ll go back to our lives and
routines. and that is good. Even
grief recedes with time and
grace. But our resolve must not
pass."
