Spring. May 27 - June 15 gives opportunity for a broader look at our
world of work in a series of workshops and seminars sponsored by the
University of Oklahoma College of Liberal Studies and School of Library
Science, and the Oxford Liberal Studies and School of Library Sciences,
and the Oxford University Department for External Studies. For further

will be held June 9-16 at the School of Library Science, George Peabody

Computer Based Reference Service
Western Kentucky University. Departments of Library Science and Instruc-
tional Media presents a 2-day workshop on Computer Based Reference Service.

THE LIBRARY IN AIQIION
The Handicapped and the Library
The Staff Development Committee will be sponsoring a program on the hand-
icapped and the library, employees and patrons. Jack Karnes, of Handicapped
Student Services, will lead the discussion and will have a panel of hand-
icapped students or employees of the University to answer questions. The
Committee wants to submit questions to him prior to the program. If you
have any questions regarding services to, or problmes of, the handicapped,
please submit them to Barbara Galik, Reference Department, MIK South by
Friday April 13. These questions, plus any you may want to ask them from
the floor will be answered by the panel.
SPEC Kit
The Reference Department has received a new SPEC Kit, no. 51, titled
"Professional Development". The SPEC Kits are published by the Systems
and Procedures exchange center of the Association of Research Libraries;
they are available at the Reference Desk.
Telephone Rate Increase ·
There has been a telephone rate increase for interstate calls effective
Feb. 1, 1979. According to University Communications Services, long

distance calls to Texas, North and South Dakota and all states within
Y and west of the Mountain Time Zone should be made over GTE lines at
' applicable toll rates rather than KATS.
I.lBRAR  ANS IN ACTION
SUSAN CSAKY, LARRY GREENWOOD, JUDY SACKETT journeyed to Cincinnati for
a days workshop sponsored by architects. Taking advantage of what you
have was the part most enjoyed. The psychological effect of color, signs,
arrangement was emphasized, and the point made that they frequently can
be controlled by the librarians working there. ‘ -
