- Scope and Content
- The Arthur R. Watson papers (dated 1978-1996, undated; 0.15 cubic feet, 6 folders) comprise letters, concert tickets, notes, and photographs that document the life of Watson in Maryland and Florida in the 1980s. The letters are from friends and family, mainly discussing Watson moving to Florida, getting intoxicated, performing with bands, encounters with the police, employment, and money concerns. The letters highlight the rise of hard drugs and heavy partying that became part of popular culture in the 1980s. Many of the letters include vulgar language and imagery on the margins. The concert tickets are for a variety of rock and metal bands, including Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent, Starship, Heart, The Outlaws, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The notes comprise phone numbers of friends and businesses and fliers for parties and performances. The photographs include images of a house, friends and family.
- The Arthur R. Watson papers are part of the Wade Hall Collection of American letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
