- Biography / History
- Daniel B. Ridgely (1813-1868) was an United States naval officer. Ridgely, born near Lexington Kentucky, was appointed midshipman in 1828 and eventually rose to the rank of commodore, serving in the Pacific and the Mediterranean. He participated in naval battles during the Mexican War and commanded several ships in the Union blockade of the Confederacy during the Civil War.

- The Daniel B. Ridgely power of attorney (dated 1835 April 3; 0.01 cubic feet; 1 item) comprises a power of attorney for Ridgely granting his mother, Susan Ridgely, legal power over his enslaved people. The power of attorney executed in Jessamine County, Kentucky, lists the names of his enslaved people: Nathan, Dennis, a boy named Nathan, a girl named Ellen, a girl named Ann, and a boy named Richard.
