Scope and Contents
These materials are index cards of recorded folklores which were collected to satisfy the requirements of courses taught by William Hugh Jansen. The bulk of the materials are from his time as a faculty member in the English Department but some of the materials were produced during his time as a doctoral student at Indiana University. These names associated with these index cards can be found in an older collection inventory in the collection file. If there is no note associated with a box it means that it is unclear where that set of index cards fit within the old inventory.

Folk Archive, 1950-1958
Scope and Contents

Audio Materials, 1952-1977
Scope and Contents
The Audio Materials subseries contains the Everett/Edwards Folklore Cassettes, recordings from the Pine Mountain Folklore Project, recorded student folklores, and recordings of William Hugh Jansen from the radio. The Everett/Edwards folklore cassettes were meant to be a teaching tool and Jansen contributed one lecture for that series. The Pine Mountain Folklore Project was designed to intensively study the status of folklore in that eastern Kentucky community. Folklores were collected by initially going door to door in the Pine Mountain Community, and later by going to recommended homes. The result is a mixture of ballads and spoken folklores.
