- Scope and Content
- The Daniel Arnold letters (dated 1851-1868, undated; 0.014 cubic feet; 1 folder) comprise letters that document the life and military experience of Arnold during the Civil War in Indiana. The letters are sent to Daniel from family and friends, inquiring about his health, asking when he will be able to come home, telling him about daily life at home, and visits from friends and family. One letter to Daniel is from a fellow soldier serving in the 47th Regiment of the Indiana Volunteers and he writes about camp conditions, watching thunderstorms, and his thoughts on whether the regiment will stay put for the winter or move again. Additionally, there is a letter between Daniel Ohlwine and Ferdinand Knapp that discusses a debt owed to one of the men from a mutual friend and a letter from Robert Caruthers Jr. to his father that discusses him moving accommodations and how his classes are coming along.
- The Daniel Arnold letters are part of the Wade Hall Collection of American letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
