TWENTY YEARS OF SERVICE

With this issue of the K. N. E Ar Journal, the Secretary.’l‘reasurer
completes twenty years of service, having been elected in 1922.
Throughout these years he has enjoyed the cooperation of the prin-
cipals, teachers, and friends of education in the state of Kentucky.

During these years there have been ten presidents of the K. N. E.
A.: Reed, Davis, Meyzeek, Humphrey, Anderson, Atwood, Blanton,
Fouse, Barker and Goodloe. These gentlemen gave to the secretary-
treasurer excellent cooperation in managing the affairs of the asso»
ciation.

During these years We have issued continuously either the K. N. E
A Bulletin or K. N. E. A. Journal. We have set up the scholarship
loan fund of more than $500; we have donated $500 w the Survey
Commission; we have donated $100 to the Teachers’ Retirement sys-
ifln; We have donated $500 to the Louisville Teachers in their fight for
equal salaries; we have been continuously affiliated and represented
in the American Teachers Association.

The organization has gained a membership of over 1500. We have

3

never been in debt during these twenty years, nor has there been any
criticism of the financial transactions by any auditing committee or
Board of Directors.

For these twenty years, the K. N. E, A. has presented outstanding
educators of the nation on its convention programs. Thanks are ex-
tended to those who have made this achievement possible.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Mr. W. H. Perry, Jri, principal of the Madison Street Junior High
School, has announced his candidacy for the secretary-fleasurership
of the K. Ni E A. at the coming election. This is the first time he has ‘
sought a major office in the association during his twenty years of ser—
vice in it,

'He holds the Master of Education degree from the University of
Cincinnati, and has wide experience on several levels of education,
having served as teacher at Central High School and principal or the
Western (Elementary) School of Louisville, =before going to his present
position. He has also taught at Kentucky State College and Louisville
Municipal College during summer or evening sessions, Mr. Perry serv»
ed as the first secretary of the Louisville Association of Teachers in
Colored Schools, and later as its president. Inning his administration
aggressive efforts to advance teacher interests were made. He has also
served as secretary and chairman of the Louisville Principals’ Council,
and is now chairman of the High School and College Department of
the K. N. E. A.

He is well known in the state because of his fraternal as well as
educational activities, having served as Grand Secretary of the Royal
_Arch Masons and later as Grand Secretary of the Masonic Lodge of
Kentucky. During World War 1 he served overseas as a Sergeant-Ma«
jor, a high clerical position.

In announcing his platform, Mr. Perry plans the following:

' PLATFORM

1. To perform efficiently and courteously the function of secretary-
treasurer in carrying on the business of the association, under the
direction of the president and board of directors.

2. To operate the ofiice of secretary~treasurer with as great economy
as is in harmony with efficiency.

3. To encourage use of the K. N. E, A. Journal by teachers and prin»
cipals of the state for the exchange of ideas on problems of edueae
tion and matters of interest to the members of the organization.

4, To cooperate with the various departments of the association in
their efforts to increase and strengthen their efi'ectiveness.

5. Under the direction of the president,

(a) to maintain a close relationship with other educational organi-
zations on projects of mutual interest.

(b) to secure, where possible, recognition of the K. N. E. A. by the
policymaaking groups that affect Negro education.

I hope this program meets your approval, and that you, as a result
of the election, will permit me to put it into operation.
