Biography / History
Sue Eakin (1918-2009) was a historian and professor from Louisiana, who taught at Louisiana State University at Alexandria for over 25 years. Eakin is particularly noted for re-publishing an enhanced version of Solomon Northup's memoir Twelve Years a Slave (1968).

The Sue Eakin papers (dated 1930-1997, undated; 16.11 cubic feet; 28 boxes, 1 oversize box, and 1 folder) consist of correspondence, office files, manuscripts, and student work relating to the career of Louisiana historian and professor Sue Eakin. The majority of the collection consists of student papers and projects primarily relating to local Louisiana history. Some of these papers may relate to Sue Eakin oral histories held by the Louie B. Nunn Center. The papers also include manuscripts and research relating to a book about Jack Gremillion, a Louisiana State Attorney General; files relating to plantation history conferences in the 1980s; and general research files.
