Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- The Forrester family comprised Hiram Edward Forrester (1860-1946), his wife Adelaide Kern (1861-1961), and their three children, Margaret (1890-1972), George (1893-1975), and Mary Anna (1896-1922). Hiram and Adelaide married in 1887 in Indiana, and relocated to New York shortly after. In 1897, Hiram is listed as operating a dental practice in San Jose, California; however, by 1900 the family lived in Pueblo, Colorado. In the 1930s, Hiram and Adelaide relocated to Toledo, Ohio where they spent the remainder of their lives. Margaret married Edgar Mull (1861-1932) in 1928, and the couple moved from Colorado to Toledo, Ohio by 1930. George worked as an electrical engineer and moved from Colorado to Detroit, Michigan; it is unclear if he ever married. Mary Anna married Kennedy Boardman (1894-1959) in 1921, she died four days after giving birth to a stillborn son.
- American Letters collector Wade Hall (1934-2015) was a native of Union Springs, Alabama. Starting in 1962, he lived in Louisville, where he taught English and chaired the English and Humanities/Arts programs at Kentucky Southern College and Bellarmine University. He also taught at the University of Illinois and the University of Florida. He held degrees from Troy State University (B.S.), the University of Alabama (M.A.), and the University of Illinois (Ph.D.). He served for two years in the U.S. Army in the mid-fifties. Dr. Hall was the author of books, monographs, articles, plays, and reviews relating to Kentucky, Alabama, and Southern history and literature. His most recent books include A Visit with Harlan Hubbard; High Upon a Hill: A History of Bellarmine College; A Song in Native Pastures: Randy Atcher's Life in Country Music; and Waters of Life from Conecuh Ridge.
