Collection Overview
- Scope and Content
- The Kentucky Circuit Court (Pike County) records (dated 1860-1867; 5 reels; 735 cases) contains microfilmed copies of records filed in Pike County Circuit Court from August 22, 1860 to November 25, 1867. The materials, generally petitions, summonses, and other court documents, include papers concerning disputes between the Hatfields and McCoys in the 1860s which some historians believe may have contributed to the outbreak of their famous feud more than a decade later. Other cases represented in the records include several tied to the divided feelings brought about by the Civil War, such as questioning the confiscation of property by one side or the other. Contains numbers 1889 through 2625, though the file is not complete.
