 I OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE COUNCIL ON LIBRARY RESOURCES
I The Council on Library Resources, through its Professional
I Education and Training for Research Librarianship (PETREL) program, also
I continues to address important concerns in library education. At the
I ARL Meeting in Scottsdale, John McDonald, Chairman of the PETREL
I Advisory Committee, reported on several new and continuing activities.
I On April zh the CLR Board authorized expenditure of nearly $u50,000 in
I additional support for PETREL activities. With PETREL funding, the
I University of Chicago Graduate Library School will begin offering a new
I Certificate of Advanced Study in Library Management; six students will
I begin work in the I982—83 academic year. The University of Michigan
I School of Library Science has augmented its basic professional
I . curriculum with an intensive research library internship. Five students
have been selected to paticipate and another five will be selected for
, next year. The Graduate School of Library and information Science at
I the University of California, Los Angeles, has inaugurated a Senior
I Fellows program. Twelve outstanding librarians will participate in six
I weeks of intensive study of present and future contexts of research
I libraries and the best current practices in research library management.
§ The first year's participants are: Millicent D. Abell, University of
I California, San Diego; Jean L. Aroeste, Princeton; Joan L. Chambers,
I University of California, Riverside; Richard J. Dionne, Yale University,
I D. Kaye Gapen, University of Alabama; Clinton N. Howard, University of

I IIlinois—Chicago Circle; Philip E. Leinbach, Harvard University; Ann K.
I Randall, Brown University; Barbara J. Smith, Pennsylvania State
I University; and PAUL A. WILLIS, University of Kentucky. The program
I will be supported by the Council for two more years, with the hope that
